Parent Workshops

Parent Workshops are designed to give parents and carers information about their children's education. They are designed to support you with learning at home and help you to understand how we teach the children in school.

This year in English we have delivered three parent workshops so far. These were:

  • An Introduction to Phonics for Reception and Key Stage One parents.

This workshop was designed to provide parents with information about Twinkl Phonics. This workshop explained how we teach children to read. You will find information below including the PowerPoint slides, letter formation rhymes, actions, top tips for using sound buttons and using phonics whilst out and about! There is also a guide for Year 1 parents about the Phonic Screening Check.

  • An Introduction to Rhino Readers for Reception and Key Stage One parents.

This workshop was designed to provide parents with information about how to listen to your child read. This workshop looked at Rhino Readers and how these fully decodable books help your child to read. We also talked about promoting a love of reading and engaging children with reading. You will find information below including the PowerPoint slides, a parent guide and how to help your child learn to read.

  • A Reading Workshop for Key Stage Two parents.

This workshop was designed to provide parents with information about how to develop fluency and comprehension skills in Key Stage Two. You will find the PowerPoint slides below.

Further information will be added to the website as needed. If you have any questions or would like to know more about phonics or reading you can contact your child's class teacher or either of the English Subject Leads will be more than happy to help you - Mrs Doskocz and Miss Barrington.

In Maths this year, we have delivered two parent workshops:

  • Maths Fluency in Reception and Key Stage 1

This workshop was designed to provide parents with information about how to develop mathematical thinking and a good understanding of number in the Early Years. We talked about developing the mathematical principles and key skills such as subitising. This also helps the children later in their journey as they can build on this early understanding.

  • Developing number across Key Stage 2.

This workshop was designed to provide parents with information about how to support mathematical thinking, problem solving and reasoning across Key Stage 2.

Further information will be added to the website as needed. If you have any questions or would like to know more about Maths you can contact your child's class teacher or our Maths Subject Lead Mrs Salmon will be more than happy to help you.
